A video sketch based on Beckett’s Waiting for Godot and Franz Kafka’s book of the same name. In the original story the protagonist wakes one day to discover he has turned into a bug.
In this version merges indigenous mythologies with pop narratives of tele novellas and the nuanced history of magical realism in Mexico a a woman who feels caught between two worlds talks to a beetle. Together the two reflect on belongingness and race. Their conversation reflects a rapidly changing United States and the fear, uncertainty and absurdity that accompanies these changes.
At the end of the exchange the creature produces an armature for the woman to wear and she tries on the armor as part of cultural reinvention. (2016)
